USCIS Extends Green Card Validity for Those Removing Conditions on Resident Status (I-751)

Updated: Jun 30, 2023

A few months ago, we sent out a newsletter advising everyone that the 'green cards" would be extended for 24 months while their I-751 petition to remove the conditions on residency is pending. Well, now they are extending green cards for 48 MONTHS while they process your I-751 petition. It is taking longer than usual for these petitions to be processed.

If you filed before January 25, 2023, and your Form I-751 is still pending, USCIS will send you a new receipt notice with the new expiration date. Together, the receipt notice and your expired Green Card serve as proof of your continued status while your case is pending with USCIS and can be used for work and travel for 48 months beyond your Green Card expiration date.

Note -- the time your I-751 petition is pending still counts towards your time for citizenship. If you qualify for citizenship while your I-751 is still pending, you should talk to us about starting your citizenship process even while you're I-751 is pending.
