On Sept. 20, 2023, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) made a series of announcements through a Fact Sheet. One of the notable announcements was the increase of the validity period of initial and renewal of work permits to 5 years for certain categories. The announcement details that the noncitizens that will receive that increase in validity are the following:

Refugees;
Asylees;
Recipients of withholding of removal;
Applicants for asylum;
Applicants for adjustment of status (permanent residency); and
Applicants for cancellation of removal.
As of Oct. 1, 2023, USCIS began dedicating additional resources to decrease the EAD processing times for those who are paroled through CBPOne and the Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan (CHNV) parole process to 30 days.
